Pastor Alvin Newton

Reverend Alvin Newton was born to Ellen and Arthur, the sixth of seven children and was raised in the district of Bryan Castle, St. Ann, Jamaica, West Indies. He attended Gibraltar school where he did first, second and third year examinations.

Reverend Newton gave his life to the Lord in 1964 after he was convicted by a message that was preached by the Late Rev. J. Mullings. He became a member of the Caledonia Holiness Christian Church and served in the Sunday school and Youth ministries under the leadership of Rev. Clarence Farquharson, Rev. Agnes Farquharson, Rev. Robert Williams and his wife, Rev. L. A. Williams. He was well liked in the church because of his humility, willingness to serve and his love for the Lord. Reverend Newton relocated to Kingston in 1968 where he accepted a position at the National Water Commission as a Filtration Operator. Being a hard worker, well respected and more than all a man of God, he was promoted to Senior Supervisor in the Maintenance and Distribution department of the National Water Commission.

Reverend Alvin Newton is a founding member of the Bethune Ave Holiness Christian Church which was established in 1973. He served as the treasurer of the church from 1973 until 1988 when he migrated to the United States of America. He was a member of the singing ministry that ministered to other churches, schools, colleges and to the prison. He also did a number of in-service leadership and administrative training in the churches both in Jamaica and in the USA. While in Kingston, Reverend Newton was shepherded by a number of well known and highly respected men of God: The late Rev. A.B. Vassel, the late Rev. Raphael Rowe, the Late Rev. Bethune Vassel and Bishop Noel J. Gibbs.

Reverend Newton was married to Hazel R. Huie. The union produced four children, Andrea, Duane, Kareen and Narda. Sister Hazel Newton departed to be with her Savior in 2005. As a father, Reverend Alvin Newton has been a great example and mentor to his adult children. He has been a role model in the ministry that has influenced and impacted his son to emulate his father’s footsteps. Rev. Dr. Duane Newton and his wife, First Lady Anecia Newton are the founders of Redeeming Life Christian Center in Danbury Connecticut of which Dr. Duane Newton is the pastor. Reverend Alvin Newton is the proud grandfather of his three grandchildren, D’Andre, Matthew and Gabryiel.

Reverend Alvin Newton’s service and walk with the Lord did not end in Jamaica, but he continued to make himself available to the work of God at the Holiness Christian Church of Yonkers in various ministries: Sunday School, Prison, Youth and Nursing Home ministries. According to Jeremiah 29: 11 ‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ declared the Lord, ‘plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you a hope and a future.’ God had a plan for Reverend Alvin Newton and so he was sent by God in 1999 to the Holiness Christian Church of the Bronx under the leadership of Rev. Livingston Gibbs, Emeritus. His first message in the sanctuary was ‘God is looking for a man.’ In October of 2000, Alvin Newton was ordained as a Minister. During the illness of Rev. Livingston, Newton assumed the responsibility of the pastor so that the work of God would continue. After Rev. Livingston Gibbs retired in 2019, Minister Alvin Newton became the Interim Pastor.  In March 2022, Min. Newton was ordained & installed as the Pastor of the Holiness Christian Church of the Bronx.
